FAQ: Treatment

How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments required is determined by the nature of the complaint, the underlying health of the patient, and how the patient responds to treatment.  We are all individuals, and it is best to approach case management as such.  Some chronic conditions require ongoing treatment over a period of months, while other conditions (often acute or with a recent onset) may resolve in 2 or 3 sessions.  Most people see some significant change in their health status after coming in weekly for only a handful of weeks.  To ensure the best possible outcomes, my general recommendation is that you commit to weekly appointments for 6 weeks, at which point we'll re-evaluate your health status and determine the next plan of care.  It is important to book these initial sessions at a maximum of weekly increments, as acupuncture and therapeutic manual therapy work best with momentum.

FAQ: Treatment - Of course, the longer a condition has been developing the longer the course of treatment that may be required to re-balance or rebuild the body's energy.  If you are willing to take herbs, you will likely need fewer office visits--in some cases, far fewer.  Likewise, your attitude and willingness to make changes in your diet and lifestyle may play a major role in accelerating your healing process.  Tune up treatments once a season are usually sufficient to keep the body in balance so that symptoms do not recur, but many patients choose to continue treatment on a bi-weekly or monthly basis as part of a self-care routine to prevent illness.  This is in keeping with one of the basic tenets of Chinese medicine, that prevention is better than cure.
